The man

Born: November 24, 1947 in Bombay

Ramesh Sippy directed the iconic Sholay, which is among the most successful Indian films ever made. Adjusted for inflation and growth of population it is considered by some the biggest hit in Indian film history.

Sholay came on the heels of the hugely successful Seeta aur Geeta, which, in turn, succeeded the fairly popular Andaz. However, regardless of what annual box office records show, Sholay was his last major hit on the big screen.

Sippy's Buniyad remains one of the most successful television serials in any Indian language.
