Though the movie does not clearly spell out the reason behind this, anyone who knows anything about DU knows about the legendary rivalry between the two colleges. The Hindu vs Stephen’s rivalry might be the most well-known and talked about, but these are not the only two DU colleges on an eternal quest to best each other. And as the new session begins, these rivalries are passed on to freshers as traditions, and they then have to carry forward the animosity. All in the spirit of good fun, though!

St Stephen’s College continued to dominate, particularly in English Honours, with the highest minimum allocation score at 926.92. Hindu (885.76), Miranda House (863.02) and Hansraj (851.11) also posted high cutoffs for the course. The lowest score was recorded at Satyawati College (Evening) at 593.24. This course attracted over 12.2 lakh applications.

For science programmes, the cutoffs are derived from a maximum of 750 marks (based on the top three subjects), except in the case of Mathematics Honours and Computer Science, which also use the top four subjects.

In science subjects, Mathematics (H) saw a highest cutoff of 834.08 at St Stephen’s, while for Zoology it was 678.44 at Hindu. For Physics (H), St Stephen’s had the highest cutoff of 578.76.

On Saturday, DU released its first seat allotment list, offering 71,642 seats across 79 courses in 69 colleges to 93,000 students. Candidates have to accept their allotted seats by Monday. Despite the massive first round of allocations, the admission process is far from over. Many are expected to seek upgrades or shift to other preferred options. DU will release the list of vacant seats on July 24, and students can reorder their preferences by 4.59 pm on July 25. The second round of seat allotments will be on July 28.

The National Institute Ranking Framework has a parameter called Region Diversity, which considers the percentage of students from other states/countries in an institute.  The hiring of ad hoc teachers has become an integral part of functioning in Delhi University, where appointment of regular faculty has stalled for more than a decade. Each college now has around 50 ad hoc teacher and in some they even outnumber the permanent ones. Absorption of these temporary teachers into the faculty has been a longstanding demand. The university has asked colleges to expedite the recruitment of permanent teachers, but these issues cannot be resolved so long as the process does not fill EWS and OBC reservations.
