''<br /> <br /> =Jajpur Subdivision,1908=<br /> <br /> North-western subdivision of Cuttack Dis- <br /> trict, Bengal, lying between 20 39' and 21 10' N. and 85 42' and <br /> 86° 37' E., with an area of 1,115 square miles. The population in 1901 <br /> was 560,402, compared with 525,910 in 1891. The west of the sub- <br /> division lies on the fringe of the Chota Nagpur plateau, and this portion <br /> is very sparsely populated ; towards the east, which consists of a fertile <br /> highly cultivated plain, the density increases, the average for the whole <br /> subdivision being 503 persons per square mile. It contains one town, <br /> Jajpur (population, 12,111), its head-quarters ; and 1,580 villages.</div>
