''<br /> <br /> =Sonai River=<br /> <br /> River of Assam, which rises in the Lushai Hills <br /> and, after a tortuous northerly course of 60 miles through Cachar Dis- <br /> trict, falls into the Barak. As far as Maniarkhal it flows through jungle <br /> land, but in the lower part of its course its banks are fringed with <br /> villages. The most important of these are Palanghat and Sonaimukh. <br /> Boats of 4 tons burden can proceed as far as Maniarkhal during the <br /> rains, but the river is not largely used as a trade route.</div>
