The 50 most popular Hindi-Urdu songs of 1988

A note about a song

Indpaedia’s volunteers checked both CDs (volumes) of Shagufta but could not find any song listed by the title ‘Bahut dinon say tabiyat udaas rehti hai.’ So, they did a Google search of the lyrics. This phrase occurs, with a twist, in poet Nasir Kazmi’s ‘Woh dil navaz hai nazar shanaas nahin/...bahut dinon se tabiyat meri udas nahin.’ Indpaedia is including this song on the authority of Prof A. Bhargava.

One additional song with a classical background

Raags in songs

Few film songs that have a root in Indian classical music remain faithful to a raag throughout their length. Indpaedia volunteers have sometimes mentioned raags even when there is merely a hint of that raag in a song. (‘Raag’ is frequently spelt ‘raga,’ while ‘taal’ is also spelt ‘tal.’)

Wherever a taal has been mentioned, it is the one verified by ChandraKantha.com, and sometimes the raags, too.
