Pre-Harappan remnants

Ajay Sura, Remnants of pre-harappan civilisation found in Fatehabad , March 4, 2017: The Times of India

CHANDIGARH: In the series of steps being taken to revive the Saraswati river, the excavations along the river course at village Kunal in district Fatehabad revealed remnants of pre-harappan civilisation, which are said to be of more than 6,000 years old.

An official of Haryana Archaeology and Museums department said that so far, this civilization could be the oldest as the Harappan civilisation was about 3,500 years old and the pre-harappan civilisation was about 5,000 to 6,000 years old. The excavation team found ornaments, beads and bones. These remnants are priceless and the Archaeology and Museums Department would keep them in museum.

The excavation was started under the supervision of officers of the Haryana Archaeology and Museums Department and Archaeology department of the central government. He said that recently, an agreement was signed for excavation between Haryana Archaeology and Museums department and Indian Archaeological Society, National Museum, New Delhi.

After mapping of the village Kunal by the experts of the Archaeology department, the excavation was started and sand particles found during excavation have cleared the possibility that river used to exist at this place, but it is yet to be proved. Though, the satellite images have given indication that a river used to flow in this area, he added.
