Riding on the Modi wave, BJP made history in Haryana by winning seven of the state's 10 Lok Sabha seats. The saffron party's previous best had been five seats in the 1998 and 1999 elections.

The state's electorate had continued the trend of voting for the party in power at the Centre since 1998.

Such was the saffron surge that even new entrants -who were given party tickets at the last minute -won with handsome margins. Dharambir Singh and Rao Inderjeet Singh won from Bhiwani-Mahindergarh and Guragon respectively , with ease.

The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) could win just two seats. The party got about 25% of the vote share.

Congres could win only one seat, with CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda's son Deepender completing a hat-trick from Rohtak.

Much of the blame for Congres's poor showing would be laid at the CM's door since infighting hobbled the campaign. Also, the state government faced many corruption charges, including an alleged land scam involving Robert Vadra.

The most spectacular result came from Hisar where INLD's Dushyant Chautala, great-grandson of former deputy PM Devi Lal, trounced Haryana Janhit Congres president Kuldeep Bishnoi. Voters also rejected former Haryana CM Bansi Lal's granddaughter Shruti Chaudhary.

AAP failed to impress Haryana's voters. Yogendra Yadav lost his security deposit from Gurgaon. BSP also fared poorly, with its 10 candidates losing their security deposits.

The Modi wave has helped the saffron party’s lotus bloom in Haryana’s Jatland as the party registered a landslide victory on all 10 parliamentary seats. BJP gained three seats this time. It had won only seven in the 2014 elections.

Interestingly, Haryana has maintained the previous trend of its voters always going with the wave at the Centre. This is the second time that the saffron party has won all the Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. In 1999, the BJP had contested in alliance with INLD and they had won all the 10 seats in the state.

The results have also validated the leadership of Manohar Lal Khattar, a pracharak of R S S, who was made the state’s chief minister after the October 2014 assembly polls. The results show that Khattar performed well as CM and earned goodwill by seeking to curb corruption, especially in recruitment for government jobs, upgrading infrastructure and implementing welfare schemes.

Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, considered one of the most influential leaders in the state, lost his Sonipat seat. Even his son and threetime MP Deepender Singh Hooda failed to retain Rohtak.

All the candidates of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), which was the state’s main opposition party till recently, lost the polls and their deposits. The INLD had won two seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Sitting Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party, which had contested all 10 seats in alliance with Aam Adami Party, also failed to impress voters. Barring Dushyant, all the nine candidates of the alliance lost their security deposits. The AAP’s main face in Haryana, Navin Jaihind, too, did not secure his security deposit in Faridabad.

Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar was defeated in Sirsa, so was his party colleague Kumari Selja in Ambala (reserved). Voters also rejected former CM Bansi Lal’s granddaughter Shruti Choudhry in Bhiwani-Mahendergarh, her second consecutive loss.
