Karbi Anglong Council Elections
2017
BJP has swept the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) polls by winning 24 out of 26 seats. Two seats were won by Independents.
The election was held on June 17. It was the first major poll after the BJP-led coalition came to power in the state and new party president Ranjit Kumar Das took charge of the saffron party in 2016. Congress, which ruled the council since 2001, has failed to win a single seat.BJP's partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), failed to open its accountin the council polls. “BJP's victory in the KAAC is a clear indication that the electorate in the hill districts have accepted the nationalist party,“ said BJP state president Ranjit Kumar Das.
