Inspired by 'Little Boy?

The Times of India wrote that reports of the film being a copy of Hollywood film 'Little Boy' are doing the rounds on the internet with just a slight difference in the storyline. Where on one side, 'Little Boy' plays on the lines of a father and son story, rumour has it that 'Tubelight' will highlight the bond between two brothers played by Salman and Sohail.

Zhu Zhu in Tubelight (2017)

Kabir Khan’s dramatic rendition of the Indo-China war where a man-child loses his brother and is in search of him. Here are 11 of the most interesting facts about ‘Tubelight’ starring Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Late Om Puri, Shah Rukh Khan, Zhu Zhu and Matin Rey Tangu.

Since there is a significant cameo of Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Tubelight’, Salman Khan will host a special screening for SRK. He recently revealed in an interview, “We always have a special screening for all our movies and there would be a screening for Shah Rukh at his residence.” Salman was joined by his younger brother Sohail Khan who will be seen essaying the role of his brother in the film as well, as he marks his return on the silver screen after almost 7 years.

Director Kabir Khan recently revealed to a daily that Sohail wasn't the first choice for the role, as he intended to rope in an A-lister, one of whom was reportedly Akshay Kumar. The report states that Akshay was allegedly among the top three names to play the role of Salman's on-screen brother. The director was keen to cast a prominent star and "create the chemistry" on-screen. However, he ended up locking down on the real brothers as he was reportedly "convinced" by their act and felt it would be time-consuming to create the kind of camaraderie they share.

Tubelight (2017)

The child artist in the movie Matin Rey Tangu was zeroed down by director Kabir Khan after auditioning thousands of children.

There is also a Kannada movie by the same name ‘Tubelight’. Kabir Khan obtained an NOC (no objection certificate) from the makers of the Kannada film of the same name, since they originally owned the rights to the title.

The trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s next project with Imtiaz Ali starring Anushka Sharma opposite him, titled ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’, will be attached to the beginning of Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’.

According to reports, Salman essays the role of a man with special needs. He reportedly plays a man-child who is slow in picking and learning things, thus presumably earning the moniker of ‘Tubelight’. Despite his shortcomings, the character sets out on an unimaginable journey to find his brother (Sohail Khan), who has gone missing post the Indo-China war.

Salman’s co-star in the film, Zhu Zhu has already been seen in international projects like ‘Shanghai Calling’, ‘Cloud Atlas’ and ‘The Man With The Iron Fists’ among others. She will make her debut in the Indian film industry with ‘Tubelight’.

‘Tubelight’ is said to be Salman Khan’s shortest film in Bollywood. As per a source revealed to a leading daily, “Kabir Khan’s films are usually lengthier than the stipulated two hours that the multiplex-viewing audience favours. His last film ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was nearly three hours long and worked just fine. ‘Tubelight’ was edited and readied at a run time of two hours and 35 minutes. But the team decided to slash the film by 19 more minutes just a week before its release.”

Kabir Khan has included 600 real soldiers in ‘Tubelight’, to perform with conviction. He asked the Indian army to train these actors for the film, to which they readily agreed. They took the actors under their regime for a couple of weeks.

They organized a boot camp for the actors and trained them rigorously to make them look like real-life soldiers. The actors had a complete transformation and showcased the body language of a soldier that looks completely convincing. They even learnt to hold their weapons and armour perfectly.

As per reports, the iconic slingshot scene in ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ will be recreated in ‘Tubelight’. A source revealed, “The kid (Matin) always carries a slingshot with him. It's one of his quirks. Let's call it evolution; Madhuri has been replaced by Matin now! It was almost coincidental that such a scene be recreated in ‘Tubelight’.”

Salman Khan and the makers of "Tubelight" are reportedly upset with Chinese actress Zhu Zhu for apparently announcing her association with the film too early.

Zhu Zhu had recently shared a photo on Instagram revealing that she will play one of the female leads in the movie "Tubelight." Although the picture was immediately removed, it was already viral on social media.

It has been reported that the makers of "Tubelight" had a different plan of introducing the film's actress but Zhu Zhu's "over-enthusisam" irked Salman and his team a bit.

"They wanted to introduce her properly after the current shooting in Ladakh which goes on for another fortnight. Zhu Zhu was immediately asked to remove her picture with Salman in Ladakh which she had so happily and innocently posted. In her defence, she didn't mean to jump protocol because she didn't know what the protocol was," SKJ Bollywood News quoted a source as saying.

The source also told the publication that the Kabir Khan directorial will have two leading ladies; one of which is Zhu Zhu and the other will be an Indian actress. "They haven't signed the Indian actress opposite Salman yet because shooting with her will happen in the next schedule. Right now the entire focus is on completing the Ladakh schedule," the source added.

The names of certain actresses like Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone had been doing the rounds, suggesting that any of the two will be seen opposite Salman in "Tubelight."

Salman Khan's co-actor Zhu Zhu has been missing from the film's promotion.

While the makers were planning to fly down Zhu Zhu from China before the release of the film, but with a day left for the film to hit the screens, that definitely [did not] happen.

During a recent interaction with media, when Kabir Khan was asked about Zhu Zhu's absence from the promotions, the filmmaker said, "She's busy there in China, isi liye woh aa nahi paayi hai."

However, if a report in BollywoodLife is to be believed, this is not the real reason behind her absence. A source was quoted as telling the website, "The Chinese government isn't too pleased with Tubelight and have apprehensions about how Kabir Khan and team have projected their country in this film. Considering that the film deals with Indo-Chinese war they are not sure if the Chinese have been projected in the right light. And that's why Zhu Zhu has been asked to stay away from the film's promotions."

Marketed as Shah Rukh Khan’s film in Brussels?

Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’ marketed as Shah Rukh Khan’s film in Brussels?

Reports suggest that, when a few of Bhai’s fans went to the theatres in Brussels, Belgium, to catch a glimpse of their favourite actor, they were shocked to see that the film was marketed as Shah Rukh Khan’s film. SRK only has a cameo in 'Tubelight' and it's well known that the protagonist of the film is Salman and not Shah Rukh.

Naturally, a few fans were left disillusioned when they saw silver screen corridors alluding to the film as Shah Rukh Khan’s. Perhaps, this was a move to salvage the collections of the film in the country.

Other factoids

It was a starry Thursday night as the biggest and brightest stars in the industry descended at selected multiplexes to catch a special screening of Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’. Bollywood’s Badshah Shah Rukh Khan was among the first few celebrities to catch a screening at a multiplex in Mumbai. The actor, who plays a cameo of a magician in the film, took daughter Suhana along as his date to the movies.

While daddy Khan rocked formal wear and a waistcoat, Suhana opted for a subtle off shoulder top and ripped jeans. The father-daughter duo flashed a smile or two for the cameras as they made their way to the screening.

Going by the review, Shah Rukh Khan is earning heaps of praises for his short but significant role in ‘Tubelight’.

‘Tubelight’ awarded ‘U’ certificate, becomes Salman Khan’s shortest film

With the clock ticking down to the release of 2017’s big Eid blockbuster, ‘Tubelight’ the makers have an added reason to celebrate. According to reports doing the rounds, the Salman Khan starrer has been awarded a ‘U’ certificate by the CBFC. The film has also been cleared with just one verbal cut.

Salman Khan's 'Tubelight' becomes the first Bollywood movie to feature at Times Square

Salman Khan's flick helmed by Kabir Khan became the talk of the town since its inception. After wooing the Indian audience over with its trailer and music videos, the makers have now taken their war-drama to an international platform. A few pictures of the film's posters being featured on New York's Times Square hoardings have gone viral. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1962 Sino-Indian War and also features late Bollywood legend, Om Puri. Sohail Khan and Chinese actress Zhu Zhu also play pivotal roles in the film.

When Sanket Bhosle made Salman Khan cry on Sunil Grover's show

Salman Khan appearing on a television promotional event, 'Super Night with Tubelight', to promote his upcoming movie has been the talk of the town these past days. The actor recently headed to the sets of the popular show, to record the segment and sources tell us that it was a laughter riot. Salman and brother Sohail were laughing to their heart's content, thanks to Dr Mashoor Gulati’s (Sunil Grover) act. Dr Gulati put up an act where he operated on Salman in his unique style which left both Khan brothers in splits. Not only Sunil Grover but there was yet another talented lad Sanket Bhosle (who is known to mimic Salman and Sanjay Dutt in particular) who left Salman Khan in tears. The dynamic act by Dr Sanket Bhosle as Sanju Baba hosting 'Dutt Ka Dum' show made Salman Khan cry quite literally. A source tells us that the actor had to get off his seat and wipe the tears rolling down his face.

Admitting how happy he was to have his contemporary in the film, Salman also stated that SRK's character brings about a "turning point" in the film.

Matin Rey Tangu was chosen from over 1000 kids for Salman Khan’s ‘Tubelight’

The little kid – Matin Rey Tangu – in the teaser of ‘Tubelight’ created quite a buzz on the internet after viewers caught a glimpse of his camaraderie with Salman Khan. With interest piquing around the six-year-old’s role in the film, director Kabir Khan revealed how they zeroed in on Matin for the role. Kabir said that casting the child actor was no mean feat. He added that they didn’t set out on looking for an actor, but were seeking a wonderful child artiste who had the spunk and ability to withstand a 100-day shoot. Speaking about how many children auditioned before finalizing on Matin, Kabir said that they went through over a thousand kids before settling on him.

Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn lock horns over ‘Tubelight’

Here’s another interesting thing about Salman Khan’s next release. Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn are in the race to attach the trailer of their respective films with Salman’s Eid release. The films in contention are Shah Rukh’s yet-untitled project with Imtiaz Ali and Ajay’s ‘Baadshaho’. Since ‘Tubelight’ is a big release, both actors are keen to attach their films’ trailers to it in the hope of grabbing more eyeballs and have approached Salman’s production house for the same. Reports suggest that the banner is willing to attach both the trailers with the film, if the arrangement is acceptable to SRK and Ajay.
