Defence Institue of Advanced Technology, setup on the recommendations made by Col HM Patterson who was requested in 1950 to advise the Government of India on setting up of an institution similar to the Royal Military College of Science at Shrivenham, UK. The colonel stressed the importance of establishing a combined research and training establishment. Thus came up the Institute of Armament Studies (IAS) in 1952.

THE LIST OF ATTENDEES



The Shrivenham & Cranfield get together took place on 15 July 2012 at Druva Software, Poona. The tea was organised by Mr. Ramani Kothandaraman, Chairman & Managing Director, Druva Software.

Mr. Ramani took all the attendees around his office and explained in great detail the work culture, the working hours and other aspects of running and sustaining a software company in the heart of one of the greatest IT hubs of India, Pune.

This was a unique get together where alumni from all the three campuses i.e. Shrivenham, Cranfield and Silsoe were present.

Few of the alumni conveyed their inability to attend the get together for varying reasons. The reasons ranged from being busy with projects related to strategic national defence of India to non availability due to being out of station.

Air Cmde. Valavade,1976-80 made special effort and in the true sense of Service & Cranfield camaraderie took the pain of meeting me at the airport before I took the flight back to Delhi.

Air Cmde. (R) Dr. Avinash P Valavade 1976-80, Cranfield Institute of Technology, Cranfield was the senior most graduate present from the Cranfield campus.
Lt. Gen. (R) Tej Paul 1978-79, Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham was the senior most graduate present from the Shrivenham campus.
Mr. Ramani Kothandaraman 1987-88, Cranfield Institute of Technology, Silsoe was the senior most graduate present from the Silsoe campus.

Mr. Prasad C N, Group President & CEO, TVS Sundaram Clayton Limited; Commodore N. Hariharan; Mr. Amit Trivedi; Rear Admiral Bimal Guha; Cdr. Deshmukh; Mr. Krishnan P. Nair; Mr. R.C.Bhattachatya; Mr. Bhavik Mody and Mr. Masroor Lodi could unfortunately not attend the get together due to prior engagements.
