Mahatma Gandhi Non Resident Indian Award

Professor Riti Singh has been awarded the Mahatma Gandhi Non Resident Indian Award at the House of Lords on 4 October 2013. The award was presented by Baroness Verma, UK Minister for Climate Change, particularly relevant given Riti Singh’s recent NASA grant reported in Professional Engineering.

For his outstanding achievements in aerospace engineering, services to education, and contribution for keeping the flag of India flying high, Riti Singh was awarded the “Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman 2013 for Global Excellence” by the Non-Resident Indian Welfare Society of India.

Prof. Riti Singh has been a driving force for the advancement of ties between Cranfield University and India, with a keen interest in dissemination of cutting edge technology and development of a new generation of future leaders in Indian aerospace technology. In 2010, Riti Singh was given the ASME/International Gas Turbine Institute’s (IGTI) Aircraft Engine Technology Award 2010 for innovation and contribution to the sector.

The Indian alumni range from students who graduated from 1949 onwards, with a keen interest in interacting with peers from Cranfield and Shrivenham as well as those graduating currently.

The Indian alumni website (started in 2010) provides a great opportunity for networking. The wealth of experience by illustrious alumni and the website provide new Indian graduates with access to valuable support from their elder peers. The alumni group ‘CranSoc - India’ was formed in 1981 by Wg. Cdr. Iqbal Singh (Propulsion - 1959).

The group has met almost every year for 32 years in Delhi, but since 2009, there have been get-togethers in Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bombay, Poona and Madras.
