Typically, old states, ‘divisions’ and districts have been broken into smaller units, and many tahsils upgraded to districts. Some units have since been renamed. Therefore, this article is being posted mainly for its historical value.
Taluka of Thar and Parkar District, Sind, Bom- bay, lying between 24 degree 14' and 25° 2' N. and 70° 31' E., bordering on the Rann of Cutch, with an area of 1,618 square miles. The population fell from 41,178 in 1891 to 25,355 in 1901. The taluka contains 31 villages, of which Nagar Parkar is the head-quarters. The density, 16 persons per square mile, is below the District average. The land revenue and cesses in 1903-4 amounted to Rs. 28,000. The taluka, which grows chiefly bdjra, depends for cultivation upon the rainfall and a few wells, and is therefore subject to famine.
