Pension scheme
The Times of India Dec 24 2014 PAYING HOMAGE
Central Samman Pension or Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme started on July 31, 1980. Prior to this scheme, pension was given only to those freedom fighters or families of freedom fighters in need of financial assistance. From 1980 onwards, pension scheme was extended to all freedom fighters as a token of samman (respect). All told, there are about 1.7 lakh beneficiaries.Apart from the pension, freedom fighters are also eligible for government facilities such as free railway passes, free medical facilities in government hospitals among others.
