HYDERABAD, April 8: Students of the first batch of newly established Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, Sindh University Jamshoro, have demanded setting up a museum at Agham Kot near Gulab Leghari of Badin district to preserve archaeology items for research scholars and tourists.

They made the plea while on a study tour at Agham Kot on Monday. The site originally was spread over 200 acres which had reduced to mere 60 acres as the rest was under cultivation.

Head of Anthropology and Archaeology Department Prof M. Mukhtiar Qazi guided the students and explained them the salient features of the site. In historical perspective, the site relates to Rai Sohasi period till the medieval age. Prof Qazi stressed the need for research to explore the site.

Students during their visit found an artefact of a decorated piece of stone and some painted pottery.

They also found a kiln and terracotta grinders in large number which had been placed on graves by people. Large and medium square decorated bricks and large engraved stone slabs were also found while one such stone was engraved in Persian script.

Students urged the federal and provincial governments to undertake efforts for saving architectural structure of the historical site.
