Payanghat
The name given in Berar to the valley of the Puma river, the principal affluent of the Tapti. The valley lies between the Melghat or Gawilgarh hills on the north and the Ajanta range on the south, and varies in breadth from 40 to 50 miles. Except the Purna, which is the main artery of the river system, scarcely a stream in this tract is perennial.
