Sandeep Sejwal won a rare Asiad medal for India in swimming, when he finished third in the 50m breaststroke final in Incheon. Sejwal's bronze was only the third Asian Games medal won by an Indian in the past 28 years after Khajan Singh (1986) and Virdhawal Khade (2010). The 25-year-old's bronze was only the ninth swimming medal by an Indian in the history of the Asian Games. Indians had bagged six medals in the inaugural edition in 1951.
