The recent mass shooting in an American church hit headlines across the world. Experts link the high frequency of such incidents in the US to high gun ownership. In the US, the right to private gun ownership is conditionally guaranteed in the Constitution and the country has the highest stockpile of civilian-owned firearms about 310 million, higher than the country's population. In terms of the number of private guns, the US is followed by China, India, Germany and France. In terms of guns per 100 persons, India and China are much lower than the West.
