QUIET HERITAGE

India Today December 19, 2008

This is India’s only officially declared heritage hamlet and deservedly so. Located in the lush Kangra Valley in Himachal and framed by the snowtipped Dhauladhar mountain range. Paragpur’s centuries-old dwellings and cobbled streets evoke its fairy-tale past revolving around Pragya Devi, a warrior queen. Adding to its mystique is the Judge’s Court, a 1914-vintage country estate of Justice Sir Jai Lal. His descendants now manage the estate. The European-style, double-storey mansion is a refreshingly quiet resort.
