It’s still hidden away, but the charms of the Chettinad region lie in its shops of antique wooden furniture with inlaid tiles and glass work, old statues and curios. Many of the mansions have been converted into homestays and heritage hotels. Home to the erstwhile Nattukottai Chettiars, Chettinadu is famed for its culinary delicacies like chicken chettinad, nandu (crab), roast rabbit and quail.
