Village in the head-quarters subdivision of Hooghly Dis- trict, Bengal, situated in 22° 59' N. and 88° 22' E., on the Magra Khal. Population (1901), 96. Magra is a station on the East Indian Railway and the terminus of the Magra-Tarakeswar Light Railway ; it is an important mart with an extensive trade in grain and tobacco. Large quantities of sand from the bed of the old SaraswatI river are ex- ported to Calcutta and elsewhere for building purposes.
