Meet Rajesh Jha, the second-most 'important Indian' at Microsoft, April 2, 2018: The Times of India

In the last couple of years, Rajesh Jha, who was the executive vice president, Microsoft, Office Product Group, has climbed up the ranks in the organisation. In 2016, he joined the Senior Leadership Team at Microsoft and now he has been elevated into a new role.

In what can be termed as one of the biggest restructuring in the organisation, Microsoft seems set to herald a new era. If CEO Satya Nadella’s 1300-words plus email to employees is to go by then the Seattle-based tech giant is gung-ho about Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cloud computing. Nadella outlined critical things about how Microsoft will venture ahead. “With all this new technology and opportunity comes a responsibility to ensure technology’s benefits reach people more broadly across society,” Nadella wrote.

Nadella also mentioned at length the new roles several top-level executives would undertake. Jha, under the role will now lead a team focused on Experiences & Devices.

Here are six things you should know about the second-most important Indian at Microsoft:

• Jha began working at Microsoft in 1990 after he graduated from University of Massachusetts Amherst.

• Jha also holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

• He began his career as a software design engineer, working on various clients, servers and services during his tenure.

• He was executive vice president of Microsoft’s Office Product Group where he led the development and service engineering teams for Office 365 – spanning Office, Skype and OneNote.
