Chaudhri
(A holder of four , perhaps, share or profit), the headman of a profession , trade or occupation in town; the headman of a village , of a bazaar , or of a caste panchayat ; a lesseeof a ganj or grain emporium .a holder of landed property , classesd with the zamindar or talukars . In Cuttack the Chaudh hari was the revenue officer , was there trated by the British goverment as a proprieter or zamindar .The term Chaudhari is an honorifie title of the ariar sub caste of Gonnrhis, of Halwais of the jat and Majraut sub caste of Ahirs or Goals, of Ganjwar sunris of jeswar and Banodhia sub caste of Kalwars.of kumaris in western Bengal used both by outsiders of nigars of the pachaiya sub caste of nuniyas,of sonars and tiors in Behar,of Kochhs in Northern Bengal.and of Brahmans Kaibarttas Kayasths kewats, Tambuils and Telis in Bengal.it also denotes a section of the kanaujia sub caste of goalas and of Maghayadoms in Behar and a sept of Tharus.
