Recorded a national record and world-leading effort of 18.86m for win a gold medal in the women’s shot put event during the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletics Meet in Jinhua, China. With this, she qualified for the IAFF World Championships. During the second leg in the Chinese city of Jiaxing, Manpreet won silver with a throw of 17.46m. Won gold with a throw of 18.28m at the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship in Bhubaneshwar, beating defending champion Guo Tianqian of China.

Asian Champion Flunked Four Dope Tests In 2017
Asian shot put champion Manpreet Kaur has been suspended for four years by the National Anti-Doping Agency (Nada) for flunking four dope tests in 2017. In an order dated March 29, an anti-doping disciplinary panel (ADDP) headed by Kuldeep Singh stated that the period of ineligibility would commence from July 20, 2017, the date of her provisional suspension. The panel also ruled that all her competitive results from the date of sample collection would be scratched.
Nada director general Navin Agarwal confirmed that the athlete has been banned for four years. “Yes, Manpreet Kaur has been suspended for four years,” said Agarwal Manpreet had filed an appeal on April 4 before the ADDP against the ban. “I don’t want to comment anything on this, some people are trying to sabotage my career. I have filed an appeal against the ban. My lawyers are also looking into the matter,” Manpreet told TOI.
Manpreet is set to lose the gold she won in the 2017 Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar as well as her national record. The panel ruled that all her competitive results from the date of sample collection would be disqualified.
Manpreet tested positive four times in 2017. The first was at the Asian Grand Prix at Jinhua, China on April 24, followed by Federation Cup in Patiala (June 1), Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar (July 6) and the Inter-State Championships in Guntur (July 16). She won gold in all these meets.
She had set the national record of 18.86m at Jinhua. She tested positive for the steroid metenolone at the Jinhua Asian GP meet. In the other three meets in India, she tested positive for the stimulant dimethylbutylamine, a substance that has an almost similar structure as the more famous methylhexaneamine.
