Shops and establishments in Maharashtra can remain open round the clock, with the state government amending the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Service Condition) Act, 2017, and issuing a notification in this regard.

The notification also covers hotels, restaurants and malls, but excludes bars, pubs, wine shops and discotheques.

“Now, all shops can remain open in three shifts 24X7. The move will generate more employment as establishments would need workers in three shifts,” said Maharashtra labour minister Sambhaji Nilangekar-Patil. All employees must mandatorily be given aday off in a week.
