Mumbai: The real life story that had captured the nation’s imagination during the Kargil War rode to victory at India’s foremost music awards ceremony on Tuesday. Shershaah won several honours at the Malabar Gold & Diamonds presents Smule Mirchi Music Awards at Filmalaya Studio in Andheri on March 8. he 14th edition of the Mirchi Music Awards feted the best lyricists, composers and singers of the industry for their musical talent. Shershaah won Song of the Year for ‘Raataan Lambiyan’ as well as Album of the Year. Its composer and lyricist Tanishk Bagchi won both Best Music Composer of the Year as well as Best Lyricist of the Year. Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Films Atrangi Re, Angrezi Medium, Skater Girl and Malang also carved a space in the audience’s hearts. Javed Ali was declared Best Male Vocalist for ‘Srivalli’ (Pushpa: The Rise — Part 1) and Shreya Ghoshal Best Female Vocalist for ‘Chaka Chak’ (Atrangi Re). Show host Sonu Nigam was joined by co-hosts Neha Bhasin and Meiyang Chang.

Nigam paid tribute to legends Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri. Other splendid performances were by Taapsee Pannu, Neha Kakkar, Lucky Ali and Meet Bros and gags by Sugandha and Sanket. 
 Celebrity guests included Vidya Balan, Karisma Kapoor, Pratik Gandhi, Ila Arun, Sadhana Sargam, Ramesh Sippy, Papon and Anandji Bhai. Prashant Panday, CEO, ENIL, said, “We are elated to continue our legacy of hosting India’s only music awards, Smule Mirchi Music Awards, in its 14th edition. Over the years, this has become a coveted platform for the music fraternity to appreciate the good work within the industry. ” (The Malabar Gold & Diamonds presents Smule Mirchi Music Awards will be telecast on Colors at 9pm on March 27)
