Pauri's powerplay: Gets 2 CMs in 24 hrs, The Times of India

In a span of 24 hours, picturesque Pauri district of Uttarakhand has had two reasons to celebrate. The district not only gave a chief minister to Uttarakhand in Trivendra Singh Rawat who was sworn-in on Saturday but also one to Uttar Pradesh in Yogi Adityanath. While Rawat hails from Khairasain village of Pauri, Adityanath was born and brought up in Panchur village under Yamkeshwar assembly constituency of the district.

The moment the five-term MP was named UP CM, crackers were burst as people danced to the beat of drums in his native village, Panchur. Gorakhpur's Yogi is known here as Ajay Singh Bisht, the name his parents had given him. His father Anand Singh Bisht retired as a forest ranger from Thalisand. Adityanath was the fifth of the seven children Anand Bisht and his wife Savitri Devi had. His youngest brother Mahendra Singh Bisht, who is a journalist, told TOI, “He did his B.Sc from a college in Rishikesh. He is extremely attached to Pauri.“ Kautilya Singh TNN
