Head-quarters of Garhwal District, United Provinces, situated in 30 8' N. and 78 46' E., at an elevation of 5,390 feet above sea-level. Population (1901), 486. The village lies on the northern slope of the Kandaulia hill, with a magnificent view of a long line of snow-clad mountains. Pauri was chosen as the head- quarters of the Garhwal subdivision of Kumaun District in 1840. Besides the usual offices, it contains a dispensary and a jail. The American Methodist Mission has its head-quarters here, and maintains a dispensary, a female orphanage, and schools for boys and girls.
