Perilla Bhandari Swartz (40) CM's ward to US army major

The third daughter of Sikkim's former CM Nar Bahadur Bhandari crossed half the world to join the US Army. Schooled in Delhi's Air Force Bal Bharti, she started off in the US Army as an enlisted soldier and now is commander for a Warrior Transition Unit. After 13 years in the military and three combat tours under her belt, she says, “I may not serve in a Gorkha regiment but a Gorkha heart beats under this combat uniform.... Benefits that came along with being a part of India outweighed everything else.“
