'Live life on your terms' is a motto businessman Raj Kundra swears by.

From a bus conductor’s son to a multi-millionaire, his success story is pretty fascinating but of course, riddled with controversies.

His father Bal Krishan Kundra moved from Ludhiana to London and worked as a bus conductor before becoming a middle-class businessman. His mother Usha Rani Kundra used to be a shop assistant.

Raj Kundra though had different plans and bigger dreams for himself since a very young age.

Born on 9 September 1975 in London, Raj Kundra also known as Ripu Sudan Kundra took the first step of his journey to become a millionaire at the age of 18. A college dropout, he started his business career as a Pashmina shawl trader in the UK.

He made his first million by selling those shawls to all the major fashion houses in Britain. From there on, he never looked back. After the successful Pashmina shawl venture, he moved to the business of diamonds in Dubai, becoming the 198th richest British Asian by the year 2004, as per the ranking given by a popular UK magazine. Amid his successful business career, he decided to get married and tied the knot with first wife Kavita in the year 2003 but they parted ways in 2006.

However, the very next year, Raj met Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty who at that time had shot to global fame by winning the British reality show 'Big Brother' and they fell in love. Raj, who walked out of his first marriage, leaving a new-born daughter with her mother, tied the knot with the stunning actress in 2009.

By this time, Raj had already started taking interest in producing Bollywood movies and financing them, too. After starting 'Super Fight League' in 2012, he launched Viaan Industries in 2014 and became the Chairman and Non-Executive Director of the company. Not only this, he even became one of the promoters of an Indian home shopping channel along with the actor Akshay Kumar. He along with his wife Shilpa Shetty also invested in the Rajasthan Royals franchise of the Indian Premier League and become the co-owners but his name cropped up in the infamous IPL betting scandal, for which he was banned for life from cricket activities.

Later, in the year 2018, he was also interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate for his involvement in a Bitcoin scam. However, despite all such controversies, by this time, Raj Kundra was counted among the most successful businessmen in the world with a net worth estimated to be around $550 million
