2,400 challaned for violations on Shab-e-Barat
Fines of Rs 1,000 were issued in 2016 by Delhi Police for riding without helmets, triple-riding, dangerous driving, skipping a red light and drunk driving. Chase and challan teams were deployed to curb speeding and flouting lane rules. Violations were reported around Delhi Gate, ITO, Connaught Place and Nizamuddin. Police had hired videographers to record the behaviour of drivers through the night. “Violations caught on camera would be analysed and action taken accordingly,“ said a senior police officer.
Special arrangements were also made in Trilokpuri, Jamia Nagar, Usmanpur and Jaffrabad to avert communal tension. Teams of Rapid Action Force and Border Security Force were also deployed.
A group of bikers heading towards Connaught Place rammed into a barricade on Janpath. One of them was riding without a licence and the motorbike was seized. The riders whose bikes were impounded will have to attend a counselling session by a religious leader from the community .
In one instance, bikers played Good Samaritans when they helped a family out of a car that had rammed into a truck in outer Delhi around 12.15am. Police said they would be rewarded for this act.
