Suriratna
The Indian Princess Suriratna came to Korea in 48 A.D. and married King Kim Suro. She is renowned in Korea as Queen Huh (or Hur) Hwang-ok. Queen Huh was born in Ayodhya and was a Mishra.
These facts have been recorded in SamgukYusa ("The Heritage History of the Three Kingdoms") written in the 1200s.
The Karak clan
The Karak clan of South Korea traces its ancestry to Suriratna and are her descendants.
The First Lady of S Korea Mrs. Kim Yoon-ok, former President Kim Dae-jung, former President Kim Young-sam and former PM Kim Jong-pil, inter alia, claim this ancestry.
Indeed, almost all Koreans with surnames like Kim and Huh/ Hoon belong to the Karak clan and are descendants of Suriratna.
Monument in Ayodhya
On the 6th March 2001 the Karak Clan Society built a monument at Ayodhya in cooperation with the state government of Uttar Pradesh. Since then its members, and often Government officials from Gimhae City (South Korea), have visited the site every March to celebrate the Queen’s anniversary. Often a traditional Korean dancing team has participated in the ceremony.
In 2014 India’s Ministry of Tourism gave the government of Uttar Pradesh a grant to build a Korean-style monument within the same site in order to strengthen India’s ties with S. Korea.
