Balagarh

Village in the head-quarters subdivision of Hooghly District, Bengal, situated in 23 8' N. and 88° 28' E., on the bank of the Hooghly river. Population (1901), 763. Balagarh is the seat of a large boat-building and timber trade. On the alluvial islands in the vicinity vegetables are largely grown for the Calcutta market.
