Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Janata Dal (U) leader H D Kumaraswamy have decided to take their political battle to the gods. They will slug it out, not on the streets or TV studios, but before Lord Manjunatha in Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala (275km from Bangalore).
Kumaraswamy picked up the gauntlet the CM threw at him: to testify before Lord Manjunatha. The first salvo was fired when Kumaraswamy alleged that Yeddyurappa had sent an emissary, who he later identified as the CM’s confidante and party MLC Lehar Singh, to buy peace with money. But, Yeddyurappa reacted sharply through media advertisement and challenged Kumaraswamy to repeat the same allegations before Lord Manjunatha.
The widespread belief is that persons who have knowingly lied do not come for ‘nyaya teermana’ (justice and judgement) to Dharmasthala or even if they do, they can’t muster the courage to repeat the lie before the deity. At Dharmasthala, the final word of arbitration between feuding parties is vested with Kshetra’s Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade, who said, if needed, he will be present.
Accepting the CM’s challenge, Kumaraswamy made light of the venue stating that some time ago, when he had exposed alleged land deal involving energy minister Shobha Karandlaje, she wanted him to swear before Lord Manjunatha on the charges.
