2017-19: lowest forest cover in the country

Even though the forest cover of Haryana has increased by a meagre 0.9%over the last two years, the primarily agricultural state continues to have the lowest forest cover in the country, the FSI report of 2019 reveals. Of all the districts, Gurgaon has witnessed the highest decline in forest cover since 2017 and the sharpest fall in a decade.
Over the last two year, forest cover has shrunk in 8 districts, with Gurgaon recording the highest decline of about 0.82 sq km. Panchkula has the highest forest cover at 43.51%, due to the Shivaliks. It is followed by Yamunanagar and Faridabad with forest cover of 10.94% and 10.79%, respectively.
The forest cover in Gurgaon has decreased by 0.82 sq km in the last two years, the highest decline among all districts. The forest cover in Gurgaon has been recorded at 9.2% of its geographical area, with 33.7 sq km as MDF, 82.5 sq km as OF and 17 sq km of scrub land.
