New Delhi: Delhi University scientist Professor Inderjit Singh has been conferred with the prestigious Humboldt Research Award 2022. In addition, the ecologist is invited to undertake research in collaboration with German scientists. The award includes the prize money of 60,000 Euro (Rs 49 lakh approx) with the possibility of further support during the prize winner's life.
Singh, a plant ecologist at the department of environmental studies at the university, focuses his research on understanding how plant species become invasive and cause harm to the environment. His research programme is an interdisciplinary multifaceted attempt with global coverage to understand ecological-evolutionary processes of non-native invasive plants achieving success and influencing native communities.
Singh has global research collaborations and has published more than 100 papers
in most reputed journals. He has been previously awarded the Whittaker Distinguished Ecologist Award by the Ecological Society ofAmerica in 2015. Speaking to TOI, Singh said: “It is good to see your work being recognised,” adding that in Germany he will continue to work on plant invasion. “My research will continue to be on the chemistry of plant invasion. Why exotic plants are successful and how the chemistry leads to the success. ”
