Keladi

Village in the Sagar taluk of Shimoga District, Mysore, situated in 14° 13' N. and 75 degree 1’E., 4 miles north of Sagar town. Population (1901), 1,595. It was the place of origin, at the close of the fifteenth century, of the chiefs who became kings of the whole of the north-west of Mysore, and of the Kanarese districts below the Ghats, and continued in power till overthrown by Haidar All in 1763. They were at first tributary to Vijayanagar, but assumed independence after the fall of that empire. The capital was first removed to Ikkeri, and eventually to Bednur.
