Koraput Tahsil, 1908

Agency tahsil in Vizagapatam District, Madras, lying above the Ghats, with an area of 671 square miles. The popula- tion in 1901 was 73,818 (chiefly hill tribes), compared with 74,476 in 1891. They live in 611 villages. The head-quarters of the tahsil are at Koraput Village. The country is hilly but extensively cultivated, most of the forest having been destroyed. It belongs to the Raja of the Jeypore estate.
