These weapons give us a glimpse of the Stone Age man's life during the said era. Among the detailed descriptions of the prehistoric period found here, is the India Epigraphy 1959-60 report. This talks highly of two stone inscriptions found in Madku Dweep. Written in ancient Brahmi script, one of the two stone inscriptions dates back to the 3rd century BC, mentioning the name of Akshaya Nidhi. The other stone inscription is in Shankha script and opens up newer avenues for archaeologists and historians.

Speaking of the Shivnath River, one must observe that it is extremely serene, calm and flows peacefully. The silt-ridden bank of this river holds many secrets to bygone era. A total of 19 temples have been excavated of which one faces the west while 18 others face the east. The styling of all the temples is quite similar and they showcase architectural brilliance at its best. Proved to be the heritage of the rich Kalchuri Kalin dynasty, noteworthy discoveries include Pratap Malladev's Tamrasikka, idols and Shivalinga. A living testimony of the Shaiva Traditions, all 12 temples are built in a stretch with 5 Shivalingas. After much study, it has been concurred that due to a devastating flood, they were buried 1.50m into the ground. The many archaeological wonders discovered here throw light on the ancient history of Madku Dweep.

During the Paush Pournima (Chera Chera Punni) a seven day fair is held with great pomp and grandeur. Shivratri (Fagun Amawasya) and Hanuman Jayanti (Chaitra Pournima) are also celebrated with equal zest. Followers of the Christian religion organize a fair from 10-18th February. Thanks to the comfortable services provided to tourists, their number is increasing every year. Travellers enjoy the festive fervour and visit various heritage and archaeological sites. By Rail

Bilaspur, Bhatapara, and Raipur are the nearest railway stations on the Bombay- Howrah main line.

By Road

Baitalpur is just 4km away from Madku Dweep via the Raipur-Bilaspur National Highway. Baitalpur is 75km from Raipur and 37km from Bilaspur. Local taxis and private vehicles are available for transport on this highway.
