2019: fake caste certificate
Solomon Kumar, FIR against hockey legend Mukesh Kumar, February 13, 2019: The Times of India
Former India hockey captain and Arjuna Award winner N Mukesh Kumar has scored 80 goals in 307 international matches, but a self-goal off the field is proving to be his nemesis. An FIR has been registered against the former India captain for allegedly obtaining a fake caste certificate as SC Mala from a Secunderabad tahsildar.
The FIR was registered almost two weeks ago, on January 25, but has come to light only now. Mukesh’s brother N Suresh Kumar too has been named. They have been charged with cheating and using a forged document as genuine in the FIR registered under the Bowenpally police station.
“We couldn’t pursue the matter after registering the FIR as we were a bit busy. We are going to take necessary action against him in a couple of days,” said D Rajesh, SHO of Bowenpally police station.
The three-time Olympian belongs to the BC ‘A’ Nayee Brahmin community. Way back in 2007, the Indian Airlines vigilance department had asked the Hyderabad collector to inquire into the SC ‘A’ Mala certificates that both Mukesh and his brother had furnished while securing jobs with the airline.
IA officials had received a complaint that the brothers did not belong to the SC community. An internal inquiry had concluded that Mukesh and Suresh belonged to the BC community and had fraudulently obtained the caste certificate. They wanted the Hyderabad collector to confirm their finding.
Mukesh represented India in three Olympics at Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000.
