Permission to wear hijab during AIPMT-2016: Kerala HC
The Times of India, Apr 27 2016
Kerala HC permits girls to wear hijab during PMT
The Kerala high court permitted Muslim girls to wear hijab, a customary religious dress, for the All-India Pre-Medical Test-2016, but on condition that they should be present at the hall half an hour before the exam for frisking, if necessary.
Justice Muhammed Mushtaq gave the order on a set of petitions, including one from Amnah Bint Basheer of Thrissur, challenging the dress code prescribed for candidates by the CBSE in the bulletin related to conduct of AIPMET-2016. The petitioners had contended that the instructions contained in the AIPMET-2016 bulletin regarding dress code, as per their religious beliefs and practices, would amount to violation of exercise of religious freedom.
The court said women invigilators could inspect the students by removing the head scarf. A single judge of the Kerala high court had last year allowed two Muslim girl students to wear hijab for the CBSE AIPMT-2015.
