KUMAR of the Mahar Regiment is one of the only two Kirti Chakra winners in the Independence Day gallantry award list in 2015. While leading a patrol of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles in the jungles of Wadarbala in J&K in October 2014, Kumar himself killed two heavily armed terrorists from close-quarters before succumbing to bullet injuries.
