Nakhshab Jarchavi was

Born: 1925

in Jarcha, Uttar Pradesh

Died Aug.24,1967

in Karachi, Pakistan, at age 42.

Education: Aligarh Muslim University.

Position in the Indian film industry: lyricist, story writer. Briefly also a producer-director.

First major success: Zeenat (1945), especially its all female Qawwali penned by him. the song’s singers included Noor Jehan and Zohrabai: Aahen na bharein

Nextr major success: Mahal (1949).

Films produced, directed and written by Nakhshab Jarchavi in India: Nagma (1953), Zindagi Ya Toofan (1958) etc.

Migration to Pakistan: 1962

Films produced in Pakistan: Fanoos (1963), Maikhana (1964)

Mentoring in Pakistan:

i) Gave actress Firdous her first break, in Maikhana (1964).

ii) Persuaded music director Nashad [NOT Naushad], who had composed the very popular tunes of Bara-Dari (1955), to migrate to Pakistan. Nashad compose the music of Maikhana (1964).

Marriage: Nakhshab Jarchavi and Indian film actress Nadira were married for a short while.

J Nakhshab (aka Nakhshab Jarchavi) is a name that one is familiar as a poet and songwriter in Hindi films. In Naghma (1953), we see another side of his personality. Nakshab is the producer and director of the film. Released under the banner, Filmco, Bombay, the film's music is composed by Nashaad (NOT Naushad). Being a poet, Nakshab had also written the songs for the film. Of the 10 songs in this film, 9 were creations from his pen, and the 10th was a collaboration with another poet Mirza Shaukh Lucknowi. The film has some very wonderful songs –including the iconic song "Badi mushkil se dil ki beqaraari ko qaraar aaya". Five songs from the film are posted on YouTube .

The main star cast of the film included Ashok Kumar, Nadira, Om Prakash, Roopmala, Murad, Qamar, Lotan, Ziraab etc.
