Fast lane: NHAI completes 25km stretch of road in 18hrs

Vijayapura:

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) completed the construction of a single lane of the four-lane, 25.5km Vijayapura-Solapur stretch of the national highway in a record 18 hours.

Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted this would soon figure in the Limca Book of Records. “I congratulate workers and the project director of NHAI, other officials, representatives of the company,” he said.

“The four-lane stretch of 110km will be completed by October,” the minister added.

This road is part of the high-density traffic corridor — Bengaluru-Chitradurga-Vijayapura-Solapur-Aurangabad-Dhule-Indore-Gwalior. An NHAI official said: “The stretch was not constructed end-to-end but in five different places at the same time.”

Karnataka deputy chief minister Govind Karjol said, “This rare feat will definitely set a benchmark for ongoing and upcoming projects.” He added that this highway connects southern India with northern India and its development will serve as an alternative route to the North-South Corridor of the National Highways Development Programme. Earlier, a world record was set for laying of pavement quality concrete for a four-lane highway of 2,580metres within 24 hours during construction of the Delhi-Vadodara-Mumbai project.
