It's not very often that you come across a goalkeeper who is the most popular member of his side. More so, in field hockey where flamboyant strikers and ferocious drag-flickers rule the roost. That's where PR Sreejesh, who hails from Kerala, stands out. But more than that, few can match the 26-yearold's fierce determination under the bar. And the Indian team, with modest defensive resources, has benefitted immensely from the courage Sreejesh has shown since becoming the No.1.choice keeper about four years ago.

Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh lived a dream in 2014. He was a stand-out performer guiding India to an Asiad gold medal by effecting two vital saves in the shootout against Pakistan in the final. The memorable win, which came after 16 years, also secured India a berth at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Kerala lad produced an impressive performance at the Glasgow Games making as many as seven spectacular saves against New Zealand in the semifinal. Sreejesh was also nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award by FIH.
