Partabgarh Town

Town in the District and tahsil of the same name, United Provinces, situated in 25 54' N. and 81 57' E., 5 miles south of BELA. Population (1901), 5,148. It is said to have been founded about 1617 by Raja Partab Singh. The fort was of some importance in the eighteenth century and sustained several sieges. In the nineteenth century it was taken by the Oudh government. The Raja of Partabgarh resides in a fine building, portions of which are of considerable antiquity. He maintains a large school with 164 pupils, and a dispensary. Partabgarh is administered under Act XX of 1856, with an income of about Rs. 600. There is a flourishing local trade.
