Pendhat

Village in the Mustafabad tahsil of Mainpuri District, United Provinces, situated in 27 21' N. and 78 36' E., 29 miles north-west of Mainpuri town. Population (1901), 2,423. It is noted for the worship of Jokhaiya, a deity believed by the lower classes in the Doab to have great powers. Jokhaiya was a Bhangi, who, according to tradition, fell in the war between Prithwi Raj of Delhi and Jai Chand of Kanauj. The shrine is visited annually by thou- sands of pilgrims in the hope of obtaining offspring or an easy childbirth.
