Kannada actors who have dabbled in politics and seen some success in electoral politics

Ambareesh The Rebel Star of Kannada cinema has been given the title 'Mandyada Gandu' or the 'Man of Mandya'. Ambareesh justified the title as he was elected not once but thrice as MP of Mandya as he remained the favorite of his home constituency Mandya. Ambareesh saw victory in his first election in 1998 contesting under Congress Party and remained till 2009, with the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting portfolio held between 2006 and 2008. Ambareesh, remains one of the most successful politicians from Karnataka.

Jaggesh Jaggesh who made people laugh for his comedy performance and taken several digs at politicians in his films, made an interesting political career wherein he was forced to change bases very early on, despite a bonafide win. Jaggesh renounced his position as the Turuvekere M.L.A in 2009 to join the Bharatiya Janata Party wherein he served as a Member of the Legislative Council and later as the vice-chairman of KSRTC. He remains politically active to date as a stern supporter of PM Narendra Modi.

Kumar Bangarappa Movie buffs might remember Kumar Bangarappa as one of the budding stars of the '80s and '90s but the actor found more success in the political arena than in cinema. Kumar Bangarappa entered politics in 1996 and found immediate success in the by-elections. Kumar Bangarappa became the youngest member of the legislature with the thumping win and went on to become a three-time MLA. In the last elections, Kumar Bangarappa came back strongly to defeat his own brother Madhu Bangarappa.

Shashi Kumar Shashi Kumar who was ruling the Kannada cinema in his own way faced a setback in the cinema when he met with an accident which caused changes in his face and movie opportunities started dwindling. Shashikumar was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from the Chitradurga constituency in the year 1999. Though Shashikumar was in politics actively in different parties but always stayed relevant and reduced his acting career for the sake of politics.

Sumalatha Ambareesh Following the footsteps of her husuband Ambareesh, Sumalatha Ambareesh too found a successful entry into the political arena by winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Mandya against fellow actor Nikhil Kumaraswamy. Thanks to the people of Mandya who came out in huge support by making Sumalatha Ambareesh contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha election just to avoid seeing anyone from other parties party to become the MP of Mandya but wanted to see Ambareesh's wife Sumalatha.
