A thar' or section of Nepali Brahmans.
As in 2023
In Nepal, the Brahmin caste is further divided into various sub-castes, including Rupakheti.
Rupakheti Brahmins are a sub-caste of Brahmins found mainly in the western and far-western regions of Nepal. They are believed to have migrated from India to Nepal many centuries ago, and are known for their expertise in Hindu religious texts and rituals. The Rupakheti Brahmins are also known for their agricultural skills, and many of them work as farmers.
The Rupakheti Brahmins have their own distinct customs and traditions, which are followed strictly. They are known for their strict adherence to vegetarianism and their conservative social values. In terms of marriage, Rupakheti Brahmins practice endogamy, which means that they prefer to marry within their own caste.
Despite being a relatively small sub-caste, the Rupakheti Brahmins have played an important role in the history and culture of Nepal. Many famous personalities in Nepali literature, arts, and politics have been from the Rupakheti Brahmin community.
