Rajiv Gandhi temple

Here, Rajiv is worshipped alongside God Shiva

Braving heavy rains and inclement weather, hundreds of tribals visited a fair held in Saraswa village on Sunday , a remote hamlet on the Gujarat-Rajasthan border. The reason for this is that the fair is held in the name of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi where he is worshipped along with Shiva in a temple here.

The event is organized because the Saraswa villagers credit the late PM for their village's development after his visit.

Rajiv had visited the village on March 22, 1986, when it was facing severe water scarcity .

The visit came as a boon for the village as things started changing significantly . β€œThe village got electricity, water and a road. The pond in the village was also revived,β€œ said Kanti Sangada, whose father Dhula Sangada was the sarpanch of the village when Rajiv visited.
