1.63 lakh new students join public schools THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 1.63 lakh new students have joined public schools that reopened after summer holidays on June 6.

According to government sources, the number of new entrants are calculated on the basis of the details of students collected on the sixth day after reopening. Records show that the total number of students in unaided schools have recorded a decrease of 38,000. The total number of students in government, aided and unaided schools during the current academic year is 37.16 lakh. While the numbers in government schools is 11.69 lakh, that of aided schools is 21.58 lakh. The number of students in unaided schools following state syllabus is 3.89 lakh.

The figures, said the government communication, was calculated based on the basic records updated by school authorities on ‘Sampoorna’ software. The exact figures would be published later.

According to the information currently available, the highest number of new admission in government and aided schools were to Class V (44,636). To Class VIII, 38,492 new students have joined.

The number of new entrants to public schools in the last three years, after the launch of public education protection mission, has increased by 4.93 lakh.
