When Shireen Moosvi walks into a class there is always an awe-inspired silence. After all, she is the most sought-after scholar on Mughal history. If her first book The Economy of the Mughal Empire was a unique foray into the economy of the Mughals, then her second book Episodes in the Life of Akbar sealed her fate as Akbar’s preeminent devotee.
Analysing the sleeping habits of the emperor and decoding the lifestyle of Mughal women through miniatures, are things no Indian historian had done before.
Earning the respect of not just her peers but feminists alike, she has been elected, secretary, Indian History Congress; made director, Centre for Women’s Studies, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU); secretary, Aligarh Historians’ Society and member of the Indian Council of Historical Research.
